This was one of those type of sessions that makes my heart sink but also makes me feel honored. The client contacted me about doing a family portrait session while they were staying on Dauphin Island. She said this may be the last time her father gets to go on a family vacation. She also added her father wasn't in any kind of condition to walk on the beach but they wanted beach pictures. I suggested we do the group shots on the old fishing pier. This way they could use a wheel chair to get him to the pier, and he could sit down on the benches with the beach on the background. After the group shots we moved to the beach while her father watched from the pier.
During the discussions about the concepts of the shoot, we thought it might be a good shot of doing a family portrait on the beach, with her father looking down from the pier. I was honored this family chose me to document this time in their lives and hope these pictures bring back fond memories of their time together.
