Perdido Key Family Photographer | Preserving the Beach Sunset
Family Beach Photographer in Perdido Key
This family session took place at the beach in Perdido Key. Because the children in this session were older I was able to give the family more variations of looks. I loved the conditions for this session except for the natural light. The skies were dramatic looking as there were scattered thunderstorms in the area. However, the natural light was just flat as you can see in the first picture. It was nice but to get the correct exposure the detail is lost in the background. For this session I used two lights for many of the portraits. For my tastes it just adds more pop, depth and color saturation. Families are getting away from the standard khaki and whites. I want colors to pop. Shooting with strobes on the beach gives a look that natural light simply cannot. Towards the end of the session, the sun started shining under the clouds. If I were just using natural light the sunset would have been lost. Of course, I can edit in the sky after the fact, but it adds processing time. I want to get it right on the spot.
Some families prefer natural light and I give them that options too. As you can see with the examples towards the end, natural light does give some wonderful looks. However the detail and depth is lost. For some using lights on the beach looks fake and photoshopped. For others it adds a nice dramatic flare to their portraits.
