Bourbon Street at Night - New Orleans

The sights and smells and sounds of Bourbon Street are both a delight and a displeasure to the senses. The night I walked around was after the 2015 Florida-LSU game. Many of the Florida fans stayed in New Orleans for the game. They took to Bourbon Street after the loss so the streets had the added color of gator blue from those displaying the Florida colors. Add to the mix a dash of Cubs fans showing their support with team jerseys during the playoffs. With the yellow and orange neon lights saturating the streets, the added blue provided a colorful pallet.

The smells that carry through Bourbon Street are a contradiction. You have the lingering smells of the great restaurants in the French Quarter combined with whiskey, cigarettes, urine and the after affects of too much alcohol. Bourbon Street just has a different smell than any other street in New Orleans. If you are in New Orleans and are trying to find the street, sometimes you can literally follow your nose. For those that like to party and experience Mardi Gras year round it is a welcome smell.

Throughout the street you hear the escaped sounds of live bands that play at the bars, restaurants and venues on the street. There are also street musicians entertaining the pedestrians. Since vehicular traffic is closed off, dancing in the street is a common sight.
