I typically arrive about an hour early before I meet with my clients for their beach sessions. It is a great time to scout the area and plan out the session based on the weather conditions at the time. On this particular August afternoon, a pod of bottlenose dolphin were chasing bait fish in the surf of Johnson Beach. Because I had my portrait gear loaded in the truck, I didn't have my long telephoto lens. However, I did have my medium telephoto lens and I was able to get a few pictures of the dolphin, although I did have to crop some which does degrade the quality of the image. It was great seeing these animals in their natural environment leaping and splashing their tales. They stayed in the area for hours and even made an appearance during the family session.

As we wrapped up the family session, we were treated to a very colorful sunset. I managed to get some portraits featuring the sunset into the session before the boys got too tired. Sometimes you take for granted what you have. An afternoon and evening like this makes me appreciate living and being a photographer on the Gulf Coast.
