Engagement Session in Gulf Shores | The Beach Club

Normally when I do proposals, they are a surprise to the would be bride. However, this couple wanted and engagement type shoot and THEN the proposal. They were staying at the Beach Club in Fort Morgan near Gulf Shores, Alabama. It was a crowded evening on the beach but there were areas that made it look like it was empty.

The shoot started out with really bright light on the beach. It was too bright for them to face the sun so I used my studio lights and kept their backs to the sun so they didn't have squinty eyes. After a few minutes the sun lowered on the horizon and we had perfect light. This lead up to the proposal. I think both of them knowing the proposal would happen in a few moments led to their anticipation and excitement. Looking at their reactions, you couldn't tell it wasn't planned out. They were both excited the moment had arrived.

We had a great sunset that evening and I wanted to give them something so they could remember the sunset but not have the corded beach in the background. This is when I used my lights again to put the spotlight on them, made the beach melt away in the background, and kept the detail in beautiful sunset.
