It's unusual to have a family session with nine people in it and not have a young child as part of the pictures. This family beach session on the West end of Dauphin Island had such a scenario. Because of this I was able to work the shots from different angles and views. We started among the dunes next to the parking lot. The Gulf side beach was crowded with people so shooting next to the dunes blocked them from the portraits. Once we got just about every family combination shot, we moved to the bay side. We did the same family combinations there and the background was dramatically different. While the Gulf side may have the classic look of what the Gulf Coast is known for, the bayside at Dauphin Island features a sunset over water which you don't get on the Gulf side. Adding to the depth of the portraits, we had fading storm clouds that added a painterly effect to the beach portraits.
