Turquoise Place Family Portrait session in Orange Beach

This family session at Turquoise Place in Orange Beach will give a you an idea of my typical workflow during a multi-family session. Sometimes the kids are giving fake cheesy smiles so I just go with it. In between takes I can usually get a genuine smile or at least a genuine look. It helps to let the kids just do their thing at the beach. If that means kicking their feet in the sand, jumping up, or even playing with a stick they find on the beach I let them because the more I direct a session the more fake their smiles become. Once they get comfortable I can then try some posed portraits.

It was a bright, windy evening and fortunately the Turquoise condominiums cast a large shadow on the beach and there are dunes on the property that can block the wind. At the start of the session the horizon was a little boring so I used my studio lights to underexpose the skies a bit and bring out some more color in the backgrounds. This also gave a sunny day look to some of the closeup portraits.

After the portraits taken around the dunes, we then headed to the waters edge for candid portraits and family group shots with a different background.
