Foggy Thanksgiving at Phoenix West | Orange Beach Alabama

This was the foggiest conditions I have ever had for family beach session. When I arrived at Phoenix West in Orange Beach there was a blanket of fog along the beach.  Since I had a Friday session cancel I gave the family the option for that day. Families want their portraits taken at the beach because of the scenery and the fog made that just about impossible.  However, Thursday was the only day the whole family would be together so we had to make do despite the conditions.

To brighten the look of the portraits and give them some depth I used my portable studio lights. I found a dune line to give a hint of the beach in the portrait. The examples in this blog features one of the families that was part of the multi-family session and then a portrait taken closer to surf of the entire family. By the time of the last shot we were rapidly losing light. Using my portable strobes gave the dark gray skies a more blue hour look.
