Alabama Gulf Coast Nesting Birds
The Alabama Gulf Coast is a great place to watch birds as there are hundreds of species that make the area home or visit on their annual migrations. http://www.alabamacoastalbirdingtrail.com/trails/ There are many large birds that nest in Alabama, including bald eagles, brown pelicans osprey,owls and herons. At the Gulf Coast beaches, shore birds nest among the sand dunes in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Eagles and owls nest in the Winter, and birds such as osprey and herons nest in the Spring.
Great Horned Owl nest in downtown Daphne,Alabama Great Blue Heron nest in Orange Beach An osprey nest North of the Mobile Bay Causeway. This is an interesting nest as the tree fell into the water but the parents have kept building their nest on the tree, Brown Pelicans at Gaillard Island in Mobile Bay. Gaillard Island is man made and is the breeding ground for several species of birds. Least Tern parent protecting its chicks at Perdido Pass in Orange Beach,Alabama.
