This unit at the Turquoise Place in Orange Beach was for Butch Thompson with Kaiser Sotheby's International Reality. It is a three bedroom, three bath condominium on the 17th floor. I was able to get the shoot done with a days notice and the edits were delivered the next day. I don't promise next day delivery as I give myself about two days.

One of the buzzwords in real estate photography is a technique call HDR. This can give good results especially for beach condos that need to preserve the views of the beach from inside the condo. It involves taking a few pictures of the same scene at different exposures and then combining them in software. The results are ok but it puts too much control with the software and it can also produce some harsh contrast, variable color balance and over saturation of colors if it isn't done properly. This is really noticeable with the window views where there are dark shadows, halos, and overly bright colors. There are also HDR apps for smart phones and it just looks like it was done with a smartphone in many cases.

I prefer a more subdued technique that is more in line with what appears in magazines. It involves using my portable studio lights and lighting the room like I would with a portrait session. This technique is more time consuming that HDR but I believe the results are more natural looking as it fills in shadows while at the same time preserves the views out the window. This method gets it pretty close to a magazine standard without having to do an all day shoot.
