This family session took place in Pensacola, Florida at Perdido Key and featured a multi-family with grandparents. Two of the children were toddlers so I had to be quick with some of my setups and I had to combine two or three group pictures to get everyone looking at the camera. 

We had a beautiful Fall afternoon that started off very bright. This can be great but also presents some challenges. It was too bright to have anyone looking into the sun at the start so I had to position the family with their backs to the sun and use studio lights to compensate. If were to use just natural light, the blue skies would be white and blown out in the background. Using lights I can preserve the crisp colors. My clients want  good beach photography and I feel part of that is giving clients bright AND colorful portraits.

Towards sunset the direct light was more gentle on the eyes so we worked on natural photography. Just after sunset we got some clouds on the horizon that gave us a nice twilight background.
